Foundation Stone

A poem by Rabbi Paula Marcus
In Jerusalem

Our ancestors walked here
Over 2,000 years ago
Touching foundations
Moving through generations
In the course of one day

Walking down hallways
Arabic, Russian, Hebrew
Young and old seeking cures
Twelve windows of color
Weave pictures of wonder

Our bodies are tired
Yet we listen to stories
Of reaching past borders
Through fear and mistrust
Building a new foundation stone
