"Allahu Akbar"
Rabbi Menachem Froman from Tablet Magazine on Vimeo.
Where does the prophetic voice sound? On whose lips, a word of peace and hope for a very different future? Rabbi Froman was a provocateur, to be sure. And a prophet in the strangest of places at the hardest of times. At the 2:30 mark of this video, he goes to a West Bank mosque desecrated by hateful extremist Jewish settlers. As a settler rabbi himself, he calls out from the steps of the mosque (the imam at his side): "Allahu Akbar" which means, "God is great!" or perhaps "God is greater!" God is greater than one side or another. God is greater than violence targeting a whole people for their faith or their prayers or their language. God is greater than cruelty. God is GREATER.
